Nominations are now being accepted for the First Citizen Award. Typical candidates for the honor are local volunteers who have made an outstanding effort to serve others and to improve the community. A selection committee will narrow the nominees down to three or four finalists. A winner will be announced at the 2011 Heart of Gold Celebration. The awards dinner and auction, “Heart of Gold: 10 Year Reunion,” will be held Saturday evening, February 19, 2011, in the Wilsonville Holiday Inn.
Any adult who lives, works or volunteers in Wilsonville is eligible for the award. Couples may also be nominated for their volunteer work together. “Wilsonville has many citizen volunteers who serve their community very quietly, and often with little notice,” says Jake McMichael, club president. “They epitomize the Rotary motto of Service Above Self. We’re depending on the local community to help us identify and recognize these individuals.”
The nomination form is available at the Wilsonville Community Center, Wilsonville Library, Wilsonville City Hall and Wilsonville Chamber of Commerce. It also can be downloaded here, or requested from Curt Kipp at curtek@gmail.com or 971-409-8196 evenings. Nominations need to be submitted by January 15, 2011 to Rotary Club of Wilsonville, P.O. Box 362, Wilsonville, OR. 97070.
The nominee who is chosen as the newest First Citizen will have his or her name inscribed on a plaque and mounted in the Rotary Rose Garden at the Town Center Park. Previous honorees include Lonnie & Julie Gieber, Ann Easterly, Theonie Gilmore, Dr. Laura LaJoie Bishop, Charlotte Lehan, Doris Wehler, Alan Kirk, Ron Anderson, Bob and Judy Woodle, and John and Sue Ludlow.
“Heart of Gold: 10 Year Reunion” has been chosen as the official theme of the 2011 Heart of Gold Celebration, which is produced by the Rotary Club of Wilsonville. In addition to recognizing the 2010 First Citizen, First Citizens selected over the past ten years will be invited back to reunite in celebration.
Tickets to attend “Heart of Gold: 10 Year Reunion” may be purchased from any Rotarian. Ticket price is $50.00 per person or $375.00 for a table of eight. To purchase tickets, contact Rhonda Bakke at 971-409-3705; for sponsorship information contact Brad Hansen at 503-682-8202; and for other event information contact Curt Kipp at 971-409-8196 or Jake McMichael at 503-694-2127.

Heart of Gold 2011 - February 19, 2011
Volunteers make Wilsonville a great place to live. In honor of these wonderful volunteers, The Rotary Club of Wilsonville has been holding the Heart of Gold Celebration for the past nine years.
The 2011 edition of the event is looking to be the best yet. Because this will be the 10th Heart of Gold Celebration, we have decided on a "Reunion" theme, and we will be honoring all of the past First Citizens – from Ron Anderson to Lonnie and Julie Gieber, and everyone in between, including the newest First Citizen for 2010, who is yet to be announced!
Once again, the event will be held at the Wilsonville Holiday Inn, with check-in and the silent auction starting at 5 p.m.
Make plans right now to be there February, 2011 for the 10th annual Heart of Gold.
